Pinealon vs Epitalon
Pinealon and Epitalon are the two flagship Khavinson-school short bioregulator peptides on this site. The distinction

Pinealon
Pinealon is a three-amino-acid peptide (Glu-Asp-Arg) positioned in the Khavinson framework as a neuroprotective bioregulator. Its research signature is antioxidant enzyme upregulation, reduction of reactive oxygen species accumulation under oxidative and hypoxic challenge, and preservation of neuronal viability in cellular and in-vivo neuroprotection models. It is the more directly cognitive-relevant of the two peptides in the sense that its primary endpoint is CNS neuronal protection.
Epitalon
Epitalon is a four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) positioned as a pineal-targeted bioregulator with distinctive telomerase-induction and circadian- restoration effects. Its most-cited findings are cellular (telomerase activity in cultured fibroblasts, extension of replicative lifespan) and organismal (melatonin-rhythm restoration in aged animals, long-term-cohort gerontoprotective effects). Cognitive relevance is indirect — via circadian regulation and stress-axis attenuation rather than direct neuroprotection.
Combined use
When to use both
The two peptides are commonly studied together in Russian gerontology and cognitive-ageing research designs. The Khavinson practice framework routinely uses multiple bioregulators in the same protocol — the theoretical rationale being that short peptides target specific gene-expression programmes without cross-talk, so combining bioregulators addressing different endpoints doesn't produce the redundancy or interference that combining two compounds targeting the same receptor would.
For research-context selection, the choice is straightforward: Pinealon for cognitive-relevant neuroprotection under oxidative or ischaemic challenge (particularly in cognitive-ageing models), Epitalon for circadian-cognition research designs and gerontoprotective protocols, and both together when a research design needs both arms of the Khavinson approach — which is the more common configuration in the published Russian work.
